Beautiful Marik Ishtar

This is Marik Ishtar from Yu-Gi-Oh! This was my first time doing Marik!!! I spent a total of 11 hours on this: one hour to draw and 10 hours to color in Photoshop Elements with a mouse. Kazuki Takahashi is the creator of the anime Yu-Gi-Oh!

I’m really fond of Marik because I was really saddened when I heard about his horrid childhood. I admit he did bad things, but he suffered so much. (The following has spoilers if you have NOT seen the Japanese version.) His mom died giving birth to him. As the firstborn son of a Tomb keeper, he had to guard the Pharaoh’s tomb underground, forbidden to ever see daylight. At age ten, he was forced to take the Tomb keeper’s initiation. His father tied him up, heated up a dagger, and carved out the Pharaoh’s memory on Marik’s back. Child Marik screamed and cried through a gag in his mouth, in the Japanese episodes 88 and 92. (The ritual was only a tattoo in the American dub.) This is why Marik became so angry at Pharaoh Atemu. The pain was so intense that it gave birth to Yami Marik. Some fans think Marik suffered from dissociative identity disorder, a mental disorder with at least two identities. A year later, Marik illegally went outside for the first time because he couldn’t take living underground. When he went home, he was horrified to see his father whipping Odion, so Yami Marik emerged and killed their father. However, a loyalist to the Pharaoh named Shadi showed up, so Marik thought Shadi killed their father. Marik became even angrier at Pharaoh Atemu, although I think he should have been relieved of his father’s death because his father had tortured him and Odion. In the end, when Yami Yugi defeated Yami Marik, Marik became good again. I believe if Marik had not gone through all that torture as a child, he would have grown up into a beautiful, sweet, young man. Plus, he was sooo adorable as a child!! ^^

I also love Odion and Ishizu, who continued to love Marik and were the only ones who knew there was still good in him, while everyone else thought he was only evil.
