3D Ocean blue bypass ring

I designed this ring in a CAD/CAM class at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). CAD stands for “computer aided design” and CAM stands for “computer aided manufacturing.” The CAD program I used is Matrix and I rendered with V-Ray.

The following explanation will most likely only be understood by people who have knowledge of CAD. To make this bypass ring, I made a ring rail in the through finger/front viewport, split the ring rail in half, and made a planar (flat) curve in the looking down/top viewport. Then I made the planar curve in the shape of the ring rail and the shape of the curve. In Matrix we do this with Custom Rail and in Rhino we use Curve > Curve From 2 Views. After that I added profiles, mirrored the ring rail until it formed the shape of a bypass ring, used Boolean Difference to cut out part of the ring to make room for gemstones, got heart brilliant cut stones with the Gem Loader tool, set those stones in the shank of the ring, and put prongs. Then I got round brilliant cut stones, made a bezel for the big one, put a lot of small stones around the bezel, and placed that bezel and the stones on the ring. Finally, I rendered with V-Ray.
